Writers Workshop

We love to write almost as much as we love to cook! It was really great to be included in a writers workshop for our school. We met new friends that are interested in creative writing, learned more about brainstorming ideas for stories, and shared our writing at a bookstore where people could come and listen to our work. A local librarian has been teaching this class for years and offers her time to help young people like us learn more about the craft of writing. It has been an awesome experience writing our new cookbook, “We Heart...

Double 8 Dairy

Recently we got the chance to take a tour of the Double 8 Dairy in West Petaluma California where they raise water buffalo and even got a taste of their unbelievable buffalo gelato! The tour started off with Kurtis (the gelato master!) leading us around to where the gelato is made. We peeked into the windows to see huge silver bowls and some unknown machines. Everything looked pristine. Later Kurtis informed us that the gelato is so fresh, he milks in the morning and makes the gelato in the afternoon. Isn’t that...

Sonoma 4th of July

Nothing beats Sonoma’s good old fashioned 4th of July. Travel and Leisure magazine listed Sonoma’s 4th of July celebration as one of the top ten in the country and we agree! The whole town comes out for the parade in the morning, the barbeques get started in the afternoon, and the fantastic fireworks at night makes this town’s Fourth of July truly American. We started off our fourth of July by making a clafoutis early in the morning. A clafoutis is a baked French desert with fruits inside like cherries and blueberries. It may be French,...

Connolly Ranch

We had one of the best rainy days ever at Connolly Ranch! Rain didn’t stop us from exploring farm life at this really interesting place. Connolly Ranch is a hands-on education center for kids and the community. It is located in Napa, California and they teach about farm life, farm animals, sustainability, ecology and nature. We especially like that they teach about organic gardening and healthy foods. Connolly Ranch is Napa County’s only family farm dedicated to education. One program we really love is the Dirt to Dine adventure...

School Garden Party

At the end of our school year we had a garden party fundraiser celebrating some awesome improvements on our school garden, like our new outdoor classroom and the garden shed! It is outfitted with cooking equipment, plus a new program that includes weekly time in the garden learning about fruits and vegetables, gardening, and cooking. There was a garden inspired photo booth, plant sale, face painting, and we did a cook-off with our principal, Mr. Reno. Our school garden received a 3 year grant from the American Heart Association and funded by...

Sonoma County Ag Days Event

We are going to be mixing it up at the Sonoma County Farm Bureau Ag Days. Our special ingredient will be honey! We recently visited Hector’s Honey and can’t get over the taste of his pure raw wildflower honey! We will be at Ag days to help the Sonoma County Farm Bureau celebrate local agriculture. Students will have the opportunity to see farm animals and learn about the source of their food, fiber, flowers, environmental studies, growing plants and raising animals. Hope to see you there! Flexitarian Favorites

We can still taste the food from the Flexitarian Favorites cooking class we took recently from Linda Carucci at Ramekins Culinary School. The cooking was fun as always and we learned so many new things, but eating the food that we made was incredible! We made recipes such as Mango-Avocado Salad with Bay Shrimp, Butter Lettuce Wraps with Grilled Homemade Turkey Sausage (amazing), and Jicama Slaw with Orange-Lime Vinaigrette. Check out Chef Linda Carucci’s book Cooking School Secrets for Real World Cooks. We can’t wait to take...
