A Sip Of France
We can’t imagine being chefs without visiting a place that makes over 350 kinds of cheese. Our interest in France started when we made crepes for the first time at a cooking class. It’s such an easy recipe and you can fill crepes with so many different tasty things. We were surprised to learn that crepes are a French pancake, France had to be something special if they created the thin, light pancake that can be served as a dessert or a main course!
We like to try new and unusual foods and escargot (snail) is definetly unusual, at least to us! We have been wanting a language learning program in French for a while now. How can we attend the Cordon Bleu if we don’t speak French! We often google fun facts about France, like French cooking is thought to be the best in the world. We have seen the old episodes of Julia Child teaching how to filet a fish or cut a chicken correctly. She shows us chefs that going to other countries to learn cooking can make us even better chefs. She doesn’t just put the food in a pot with some olive oil, she really teaches you. Julia shows you how to do every step from start to finish. She wasn’t even afraid to show mistakes that she sometimes made on her television shows.
Another fun fact we would like to adopt here in the United States, school kids in France usually go to school from 8am to 4pm but get a 2 hour lunch break. We love to take our time to eat lunch, chat with each other and make our own little sandwiches from the fresh tasty ingredients in our lunch box. Lunch time here in the United States should be a little less rushed! At least we aren’t asking for a nap also, like in some other counrties. Next we will have to study those counrties that have a long lunch and a nap!
Fun Fact:Ten billion baguettes are produced each year in France. By law, a traditional baguette can only have three ingredients: flour, yeast and salt.
Please leave us a comment with any fun facts you can share with us about French food! Bon Appetit’*
