Stuffing or Dressing

We are getting close to one of our favorite holidays, Thanksgiving. In fact we did some research and the very first Thanksgiving lasted for three days, sounds good to us! It is thought that lobster, rabbit, chicken, fish, squashes, beans, chestnuts, hickory nuts, onions, leeks, dried fruits, maple syrup, honey, radishes, cabbage, carrots, eggs, and goat cheese made up the first Thanksgiving feast. Wow, what a mouthful!

We can’t cook our own turkey yet by ourselves, but there are many other ways kids can help in the kitchen for this special friends and family dinner. From helping wash the vegetables to cooking on the stove for older kids we think everyone can get involved if they want to. It always tastes a little bit better if you have done a little of the work. The tastiest ingredient put into this meal is the love!!

Stuffing or dressing is probably our favorite side dish sitting on the Thanksgiving table. Its called stuffing when it is cooked inside the bird and dressing when it isn’t. Our mom’s bacon dressing has a sweet flavor from the many sauted veggies and a smoky flavor from the bacon. We learned recently that 50% of americans put the stuffing inside the turkey. Alton Brown says, “NO STUFFING THE TURKEY”. Check out all his reasons why at the Food Network website.

What is your favorite side dish? Could it be green been caserole or fresh cranberry sauce. No matter what is your favorite Thanksgiving side dish, we hope you have a wonderful tasty Thanksgiving!
